About LearnAI4Kids

Why I built this.

I have spent about thirty years working in technology, and I can honestly say the last few years have felt different from anything that came before.

By day, I'm the IT director for a non-profit, where small teams have to solve big problems with limited time, limited budgets, and very little room for waste. I have watched AI take work that used to require months or even years of slow effort and compress parts of it into an afternoon. Not perfectly. Not magically. But powerfully enough that you have to stop and say, "This changes things."

At home, I'm a dad to four boys growing up in a world where AI will not feel new to them. It will simply be part of the background — in school, search results, homework tools, videos, games, phones, and whatever comes next.

That combination hit me hard.

I did not want my kids learning about AI only from companies trying to sell it, influencers trying to hype it, or warning labels that make it sound like the only lesson is "be careful." Being careful matters. But understanding matters more.

So I went looking for something clear, honest, and useful. Something that explained how AI actually works in plain language. Something that respected kids enough to teach the real ideas without drowning them in jargon. Something that helped parents understand the technology too, without fear, hype, ads, or a sales pitch.

I had a hard time finding that.

So I built LearnAI4Kids.org.

This site is not here to sell a subscription, collect your information, push a product, or tell families what to think. It is here to help kids and parents understand AI for what it is: a powerful pattern-based technology that can be helpful, impressive, flawed, biased, creative, misleading, and useful — sometimes all at once.

I built it first for my own kids. I'm sharing it because I think other families deserve the same thing: a trustworthy place to start, written by someone who uses this technology every day, cares about getting it right, and has nothing to sell you.

What this is — and what it isn't

It's a set of hands-on lessons, not a chatbot. There's no live AI on the site at all — every AI answer you see is a real example, captured ahead of time and played back right in your browser. The activities are simple in-browser lessons (just JavaScript) built to teach how AI works. So nothing a kid types is ever sent to an AI, or anywhere else.

What we collect

Nothing. No accounts, no logins, no cookies, no analytics, no tracking. The only thing stored is which rooms a kid has finished — kept locally on their own device. See Privacy for the full stance and how to check it yourself.

Grounded, and honest

Every activity is grounded in the established K-12 AI standards schools use (like AI4K12 and TeachAI), and every factual claim has a source on the page. Teachers can see the full framework alignment on the For Teachers page.
